NWL is a Kids For Peace Chapter

We are excited to share that as of September, 2009, New World Leadership Children's Academy is an official chapter of the non-profit organization, Kids For Peace.

 

Kids For Peace is a well established international organization founded by Jill McManigal and Danielle Gram to learn about other cultures, care for the children of the cultures we learn about, enstill the skills of becoming peace-makers and get involved in our communities.

The Mission of this powerful organization, which has chapters all over the world, is:   To cultivate every child's innate ability to foster peace through cross-cultural experiences and hands-on arts, service and environmental projects.

The Pledge of Kids For Peace is:   I pledge to use my words to speak in a kind way. I pledge to help others as I go throughout my day. I pledge to care for our earth with my healing heart and hands. Since becoming an official chapter, the children and families of New World Leadership Children's Academy has put a lot of the heart and hands into embracing the opportunities that we have with this amazing relationship. For starters, on March 3rd, 2010, NWL was invited to host the location for "Helping Haiti," an event to put together peace packages for the children of Haiti with other local Kids For Peace chapters. It was an educational and exciting event for the Academy and other local chapters. After the children created their peace packages by decorating small canvas back-packs with their painted hand prints and filled them with school supplies and toiletries, they were invited to listen to a guest speak of living in Haiti, see pictures and learn some old favorite French songs from the French/Creole speaking country.

 

Jill McManigal, Co-Founder of Kids For Peace is an annually featured speaker of NWL's Speaker Series, "Pillow Talk". Jill often shares how the organization was created, its purpose, past accomplishments and incredible future goals. In September, 2010, New World Leadership became one of the first schools to launch the KFP's new Peace Curriculum. This has been an exciting and enriching opportunity for children to explore the meaning and value of peace as well as discover ways and create outcomes for the way they want to contribute to creating peace in our world.

 

Each year Kids For Peace selects a Peace Hero. Past Hero's have included Tony Hawk and Jane Goodall. The organization is in the process of making arrangements with our next new recipient to receive the award. We cannot wait to share the results with you.

 

Founder of New World Leadership Children's Academy, Kraig Kidd, sits actively on the Kids For Peace Board of Directors and is inspired by all of the local and global opportunity our affiliation with this organization provides. While the Academy contributes significantly locally to mission projects such as Global Friends, Community Builders, Artists in Action and Eco Kids, New World Leadership is highly engaged in our opportunity to serve the Masa Junior Academy of Kenya, Africa by becoming the first Kids For Peace Sister Schools.
