New World Leadership Childrens Academy

Emotional Literacy

My favorite development I have noticed with my daughter during her two years at New World Leadership has to be her ability to express the exact feeling she is experiencing. Before attending NWL, she would express herself with being happy or sad. Now she is either; frustrated, tired, shy, excited, silly, or my favorite, “OVER-JOYED”.

Understanding Emotional Literacy at New World Leadership

new world leadership, emotional litercayAt New World Leadership Children’s Academy we believe that identifying, understanding and managing your emotions effectively is one of the keys to Health, Harmony and Happiness.

Emotional Literacy is children being able to acknowledge and understand their own feelings, what part emotions play in their lives, and being able to manage those feelings and express them constructively.  This greater understanding of their own emotional landscape builds a strong foundation for a child’s spiritual identity and inevitably promotes an appreciation and an empathic understanding of the feelings and behaviours of others.

At New World Leadership, emotional literacy is mainstreamed throughout all of the school’s philosophy and activities.  In the many daily opportunities that present themselves to the child through specific lessons and through their experiences in relationships they are encouraged to synthesize through many creative modalities how they feel about themselves and their experiences with others.
